4 states with the worst tap water in USA

When we talk about water, we are talking, basically, about the essence of life. There is not a single species that does not need water to live. And when we talk about humans, the need is absolutely greater. We need water for absolutely everything.

That’s why we need to be aware of the water we use and, most importantly, of the one we drink. The quality will be determined by different factors: the environmental and economic conditions of the place where we live and the water treatment and infrastructure.

In USA, the quality of tap water in the 50 states it’s different. In some, it’s cleaner, while in others, it’s dirtier.

Do you want to know how your state ranks? Below we will show you which states have the worst tap water quality.

  1. Washington

At the top of the list comes “The Evergreen State”. Why? A growing population threatening a weak water system and the storm water runoff (melted snow and rain that runoffs surface like roofs) highly compromises the quality of this liquid (They can mix with pollutants like animal waste, pesticides, etcetera).

Also, contaminants like arsenic, uranium, nitrate, radon, radium, chromium, and chloroform have been detected in the state’s water.

  1. California

California is another state having serious problems of contaminated water, specially in rural locations. Tainted water with pollutants and arsenic added to the high levels of nitrate produced by agricultural activities is a real threat to the health of farming communities: it can cause cancer and the blue baby syndrome in children under 6 months.

However, if you live in urban populations, don’t rely too much on your tap water.

  1. Arizona

The Environmental Working Group (defined on their website as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to helping you live your healthiest life) published a report in 2016 on the quality of Arizona tap water, in which they showed that it had high levels of chromium-6, a cancer-causing chemical.

Besides, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), 2.46 million Arizonans received contaminated water through their pipes.

On the other hand, there’s the scarcity.

  1. Florida

Infrastructure problems, hurricanes, storms, overabundance of fertilizers and the ecological disasters that occurred in 2018 (when red tide microorganisms reached the Gulf of Mexico and blue-green algae overflowed into lakes, rivers and the ocean, killing a large part of marine life) have made Florida water some of the worst in the country.

In 2015, 7.5 million residents received water from very unsafe systems.
